The Community Clay! Team

Chris Targoni
Community Clay! Director

I grew up on the coast of California in a very creative family. As a child, I was given many opportunities to make art, some of which involved clay. In high school and college, I took ceramics classes and I loved working on the wheel.

My wife and I moved to DC in 2015 for a teaching certification program.  I have been teaching elementary art since the 2016-2017 school year and am currently an art teacher with DC Public Schools.  With this work I have been able to give many students some of their first experiences with clay. Through Community Clay, I hope to help more of DC’s young residents get access to pottery through community, school and family partnerships.

Known as Maddie Mae to her friends and family, Madeline is a free-spirited ceramicist and photographer.

Originally from Pittsburgh, she moved to Philadelphia to attend the Tyler School of Art at Temple University where she received her BFA in Ceramics in May of 2018. During her time at school, she spent as much time in the studio as she did practicing and studying digital photography.

Madeline has worked as a production artist at BDDW, a fabrication company in Philadelphia, and most recently worked as a studio assistant for Brian Giniewski.
